Downtown Culture Crawl Summer Series Begins June 12

Fredericton (June 5, 2008) - It's time once again to celebrate the visual arts and fine craft in Fredericton as the Downtown Fredericton Culture Crawl series begins its third summer of opening doors to Fredericton's galleries.

The Culture Crawl series begins June 12, and will be held on the first Thursday of every month until September. The dates are June 12, July 3, Aug 7, and Sept 4.

"These events are a lot of fun and great way to celebrate visual arts and fine craft in Fredericton," said Angela Watson, the City of Fredericton Cultural development Officer. "With exhibitions changing throughout the summer, no Culture Crawl will be quite the same."

Following the Culture Crawl on June 12, the public is invited to the 2008 Awards Gala at the Playhouse, presented by the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation, Inc. The prestigious Strathbutler Award will be presented to one of the following finalists: Linda Brine (weaver), Anna Torma (fibre artist), James Wilson (photographer). Reception and musical entertainment will follow.

The first Culture Crawl will open the doors to a variety of high-quality exhibits. Ingrid Mueller Art + Concepts will start off the summer by showcasing the works of past Strathbutler recipients.

The Beaverbrook Art Gallery will exhibit works from its permanent collection, as well as Building New Brunswick—a survey of the province's architectural wonders.

Gallery Connexion is exhibiting Gallery Connexion Exposed, a showing of member's works, opening June 12th at Charlotte Glencross Gallery.

Not to be missed, Gallery 78 will present the wonderful wooden masks of local artist Ned Bear.

New Brunswick Crafts Council Gallery will dedicate a show to the colour green and The Gallery at NB College of Craft and Design will explore the fabulous world of fibre arts with String Theory.

Participating locations are: Charlotte Glencross Gallery (Charlotte Street Arts Centre), New Brunswick Crafts Council Gallery, Gallery 78, Beaverbrook Art Gallery, Botinicals Gift Shop Inc., York-Sunbury Museum, Sue Lawrence Hair Spa and Gallery, Bejewel Gallery, The Barracks Fine Craft Shops, The Gallery at NB College of Craft & Design, City Hall Gallery, Mazerolle Gallery, Aitkens Pewter, and Ingrid Mueller Art + Concepts.

Brochures with gallery maps and exhibition listings are available at participating locations as well as at the City Hall Visitor Information Centre. Brochures can also be downloaded from the Downtown Fredericton website: www.downtownfredericton.ca. If you can't attend one of the scheduled Culture Crawl events, you can follow the route on the brochure throughout the summer and create your own self-guided tour.
