Summer Concerts Begin June 10 in Garrison District
Fredericton (June 5, 2008) - The Historic Garrison District will once again be alive with music when the City's Summer Concert Series in Officers' Square begins Tuesday, June 10, with a rock-a-billy performance by Mike Cadillac and the Rockin' 88s.

Featuring some of New Brunswick's finest performers, the 2008 Summer Concert Series runs every Tuesday and Thursday, weather permitting, all summer until September 4. Concerts begin at 7:30pm. In July and August, the concerts follow the Changing of the Guard Ceremony.

This year's series will include headline acts like David Myles, Thom Swift, Hot Toddy, Sylvio Pupo, Brollachan and Bottoms Up.

"We've got some fantastic performers in the 2008 series. Some have won national and international awards and several have won East Coast Music Awards. Almost all have their roots in the Fredericton area, so we're demonstrating the depth of talent we have here," says David Seabrook, manager of Fredericton Tourism.

This year's concert series has been extended by two weeks, with an additional week of concerts in June and an extra week into September.

"With more and more visitors arriving on the shoulders of the traditional peak tourism season, we want to ensure our National Historic Site, the Historic Garrison District, remains vibrant throughout the season," adds Seabrook. "The quality of the series really rounds out the experience of Fredericton for participants in this summer's new edVentures craft & culture workshops this summer.

"I think we could lay claim to being Atlantic Canada's most musical City," says Seabrook. "Our community probably presents more free music during the summer than any place on Canada's East Coast."

Along with the Officers' Square series, there's the Fredericton Business North series in the Nashwaaksis Commons, which starts Wednesday, June 11. In July and August, there are free concerts at the Lighthouse on each Friday evening and Sunday afternoon, as well as free concerts each Wednesday at 12:30pm at the Guardhouse in Barracks Square.

There is also music each Friday noontime in July and August at the Christ Church Cathedral and Wednesday evenings in August at St. Dunstan's Church.

The concerts are a presentation of the City of Fredericton. Bring your lawn chair. Fredericton Tourism provides chairs to visitors with identification.
