Bike Lanes Are Here - Share the Road Safely
Fredericton (July 9, 2008) - The City of Fredericton began introducing new bike lanes and signed bike routes today. City crews were out this morning painting markings on the pavement and installing signage.
"One of the recommendations of our Trails / Bikeways Master Plan was to install some bike lanes as soon as possible as part of an active transportation effort," said Coun. Bruce Grandy, chair of the City's Transportation Committee. "This is part of the development of a more user-friendly transportation network in the city. These bike lanes are connected to one another, and will eventually tie into a broader on-road and off-road network."
Motorists are advised to watch for the news signs and road markings. Cyclists are reminded that the rules of the road apply to them as well as motor vehicles.
