Record Development Year Announced at State of the City Address

Fredericton (November 27, 2008) - At the 2008 State of the City Address, Mayor Brad Woodside announced that the City of Fredericton has exceeded $154 million in development in 2008. This is a record-breaking year for the city, and the third year in a row that Fredericton has broken the $100 million development mark.

The total of construction value for the City of Fredericton from January 1 to November 24, 2008 comes in at $154,053,577.

"This is indeed a great day for Fredericton," said Mayor Woodside. "We continue to experience growth in all development sectors and geographic areas of the city. It is a credit to the community we live in."

Community was the theme of Mayor Woodside's State of the City Address, an annual event sponsored by the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce, and this year held at the Delta Fredericton Hotel. In addition to the development numbers, the Mayor touched on the number of awards Fredericton had received in the past year. This, of course, is contrasted against the difficult financial situation currently facing the world.

The Mayor's speech covered a wide range of topics, illustrating Fredericton's position as a smart, environmentally conscious city offering a balanced lifestyle to its residents. He praised the spirit or partnership evident in Fredericton, noting the community will continue to work together to achieve success and overcome challenges.
