FREDERICTON PLAYHOUSE HANDED VENUE OF THE YEAR AWARD AT EAST COAST MUSIC AWARDS
March 3, 2009
The Fredericton Playhouse took home the award for Venue of the Year at this year’s East Coast Music Awards. The award, one of several handed out in the Industry Awards program, is given to a soft seat or club venue in the region who contributes to the development of the music industry in Atlantic Canada. Fredericton Playhouse Executive Director Tim Yerxa was on hand to receive the award. In accepting the award, Yerxa thanked the venue’s sponsors, funders, donors, and volunteers who make the Capital’s premiere performance venue tick. “Everything we do is in service of the communication between artists -- the creators and interpreters -- and audiences,” Yerxa said. “And we are very fortunate to be able to help to make those special moments happen night after night. Thanks to all of the fine people who grace our stage and sit in our seats. It’s all done by and for you.” This the sixth time that the Playhouse has been nominated in the Venue of the Year category and the third time it has won. “This should be a great source of pride for Fredericton,” says Yerxa. “We know we have a very active and supportive music scene in our city and it’s nice to be recognized as such.” Another Fredericton award winner was the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival who took home the award for Event of the Year for the first time.
