Louis George receives Mazzuca Award at Downtown Fredericton Inc.

Louis George, owner of G. E. Georges Clothing and Footwear on Queen Street in downtown Fredericton, received the Downtown Fredericton Mazzuca Award last night in recognition of his lifelong service to the downtown.
G.E. Georges Clothing and Footwear has been locally owned and operated for over 83 years in Fredericton. The store, originally opened as a General Dry Goods store in 1916 on the north side of Fredericton. His father moved the store to it's current Queen Street location in 1926 where it quickly became what Louis describes as a home away from home for him and his family. “We lived upstairs and my mother would make homemade stew for the boys downstairs where we would just sit and talk for hours”, Louis said of his early days of employment, "and we’re still here, and we’re still in business!” Louis added that he’s “honored and humbled to receive this award” for his commitment to the community, something he prides himself on. “What more can you ask for? I’d never live anywhere else but right here in Fredericton!” G. E. Georges footwear is located at 324 Queen Street in downtown Fredericton.
The Mazzuca Award, created in 2008 in honour Gus and John Mazzuca, is awarded to a downtown business, business owner or individual in honour of their contribution and commitment to the character and spirit of downtown Fredericton. In 2008 the award was presented to the Mazzuca brothers.
Brian Muir of East Side Board Supply also received the 2008 “Downtown Fredericton Inc. Façade Improvement Award” in recognition of the many improvements he did to his property on Queen Street which included making his storefront accessible to those with mobility disabilities. East Side Board Supply is located at 520 Queen Street in downtown Fredericton.
