The Good Night Shuttle - Update
December 2, 2005
Pilot Project Update
The four-week Pilot project ended last Saturday night, November 26th . From initial reports the Good Night Shuttle was viewed as overwhelmingly positive. Mark LeBlanc, President of Downtown Fredericton Inc. comments:
“ We have heard positive comments from downtown residents who stated that during the month of the pilot project they have noticed a vast decrease in late night noise and petty vandalism. Users of the service and representatives of the universities have also said they support the Good Night Shuttle. All of these comments, along with the statistical information provided, will assist in Downtown Fredericton’s evaluation of the project.”
Downtown Fredericton Inc. is now in the evaluation process. Step one has already been completed; The Downtown Security Committee has met and begun to review the information and evaluate the project. The next step is to discuss with the stakeholders the pros and cons of the Pilot. The stakeholder group include Fredericton City Police, City Transit, Perpetual Security, the bar owners, other downtown businesses, downtown neighbourhood associations, the universities, the taxi association and the users of the service.
Once the evaluation process is complete, the observations and recommendations will be discussed with the Board of Directors of Downtown Fredericton Inc. A presentation will then most likely be made to City Council.
If the outcome supports the Project, the final report will include recommendations on hours of operation, routing, nights of operation and how the Good Night Shuttle might be financed.
