New Exhibits open during Culture Craw

New Fine Craft Exhibitions featured during next Downtown Culture Crawl
June 26, 2007 -- Several new exhibition openings and artist visits are planned for the second Downtown Culture Crawl event of the summer this Thursday, June 28, 5-8pm.
During the popular event, 14 downtown galleries, studio spaces, fine craft outlets and a historical museum open their doors to the public for a free festive evening of gallery hopping and studio visits. Fine craft is the focus this year during the Canadian Craft Federation’s Craft Year.
The Beaverbrook Art Gallery is hosting two craft exhibition openings on Thursday evening. Materialize: Contemporary Craft in New Brunswick is coordinated by the New Brunswick Crafts Council and showcases cutting edge work from the province’s premier craft artists.
An exhibition of 10 contemporary glass sculptures from the Sandra Ainsley Gallery in Toronto opens in the Annex. Leap of Faith, an exhibition of selected works from the faculty of New Brunswick College of Craft and Design continues.
An exhibition of antique purses opens at the York Sunbury Museum. Its All in the Bag showcases a private collection of 150 purses dating as far back as the early 19th century.
Margaret Boyle of Common Threads Studio will showcase her hand-painted silk creations at Botinicals Gift Shop.
Ingrid Mueller + Art Concepts hosts Veils of Solitude the long awaited retrospective exhibit of tapestries and sculptures by celebrated Fredericton artist Catherine Hale.
Sara Murray, one half of the fashion designer partnership of ‘Shallan and Sara’ will be at Bejewel from 7pm with a collection of handmade bags and clothing designs. They are this year’s recipients of the Nel Oudemans Award from the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation.
At Gallery Connexion, Reva Stone, an artist working in the forefront of new technologies will be on hand to discuss her latest project. During her summer artist-in-residency she will explore the capabilities of artificial intelligence with the development of an interactive computer entity titled Exchange.
An exhibition of nature and landscape photography by Roger Smith is on display at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre gallery. Gallery 78 is hosting a near sold out exhibition of nature paintings by New Brunswick artist Réjean Roy until the end of June.
Mazerolle Gallery’s exhibition of brightly painted Whimsical Trees and Women on Board continues. The City Hall Gallery features an exhibit by the 2nd year photography students of the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design. Wander through Sue Lawrence Hair Spa and Gallery and see a collection of artist-made fixtures, paintings, sculptures, and more throughout the space. Aitken’s Pewter will demonstrate pewtersmithing techniques.
Six artist-run shops are now open at The Barracks Fine Craft Shops. New this year is All my Relations a craft shop focusing on the genealogy of the area.
