Downtown businesses to remain open during long weekend street closure

May 17, 2019

One block of Regent Street, between King and Queen Streets, will be closed to traffic over the Victoria Day long weekend to allow for the installation of a crane at a construction site on that block.  Businesses in the affected area will remain open to pedestrians during the street closure.

During the street closure, customers are encouraged to park at the East End Garage and walk to their destination on Regent Street. Because of this inconvenience, Downtown Fredericton Inc. has set up a parking reimbursement program for the duration of the street closure.  During this time, customers can present their East End Parking Garage receipt when making a purchase at any business on Regent Street between King and Queen Streets and receive up to $3.00 back (the equivalent of 3 hours worth of parking).

“We recognize that street closures present challenges to both customers and businesses when access is restricted.  When a street closure falls on a long weekend at a time when people are typically out enjoying what the downtown has to offer, we want to ensure that nothing gets in the way of their plans” says Bruce McCormack, General Manager of Downtown Fredericton Inc.  “We hope that by offering this parking incentive, customers will continue to patronize their favourite Regent Street venues on the Victoria Day long weekend.”

The street closure is expected to begin Friday, May 17 at 6:00 p.m. and will be in place through Monday, May 20.
