Downtown Fredericton receives Rediscover Main Streets funding

August 2, 2022

For Immediate Release

Fredericton, New Brunswick Downtown Fredericton Inc. is pleased to announce it has received federal funding to amplify programming in the new outdoor entertainment space that was created in the Tannery on King Street in 2021.

This outdoor gathering space is a multi-use space with an al fresco dining area as well as casual and private seating areas which can be used by the public daily. The space can also be transformed into a private, licensed event venue including space for a stage with views from the surrounding patios.

The Government of Canada, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), provided a contribution of $72,944 for this project.

“The success of main street businesses is essential to building strong, vibrant and resilient communities,” said Jenica Atwin, Member of Parliament for Fredericton, on behalf of the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA. “This investment will help reinvigorate Fredericton’s downtown core and encourage people to rediscover and celebrate their city, producing economic benefits throughout the region.”

“With Officers’ Square offline this year, we feel it is important to be able to offer another space in the downtown where people can gather and enjoy music and entertainment,” says Downtown Fredericton Inc. President, Mike Babineau. “As our community recovers from the past two plus years of pandemic shutdowns and restrictions, we want to help our businesses and our loyal customers to connect again. The ACOA funding will allow us to offer a variety of entertainment that is open to all ages.”

Downtown Fredericton will increase the activities taking place in the Tannery space as well as marketing efforts to draw visitors to the area. Up to 30 performers will take the stage over the summer months at events including the Recap Night Market on Thursdays, which has been running since early June, and upcoming weekend concerts in August and September.
